Barbican Outdoor Cinema 2024 Film Nights Under City Lights

Enjoy summer evenings filled with fantastic films ranging from cult classics to international gems on a giant screen in Barbican’s Sculpture Court. A cinematic experience with an alfresco twist, this summer the Barbican Outdoor Cinema are bringing you the best films from around the world to watch surrounded by lights in the heart of the city. Screenings will take place from 21 August to 1 September, where you can enjoy an evening of fun, fantasy or adventure with films to suit everyone’s tastes. 

As ever Barbican cinema curators have created an outdoor programme like no other, inspired by the sweeping vision of some of cinema’s most original storytellers, among them Wes Anderson, Sofia Coppola, Vincente Minnelli, Kamal Amrohi, Michel Gondry, Dee Rees, Hayao Miyazaki, and Ingmar Bergman, alongside the work of three of music’s most iconic artists, Prince, Björk and blur.

the line-up promises treats for all film fans, including: the 20th-anniversary screening of Michel Gondry’s inventive breakout film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, starring Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey; Sofia Coppola’s luscious tale of excess Marie Antoinettestarring Kirsten Dunst; and Kamal Amrohi’s classic of Indian cinema, the epic musical Pakeezah, starring Meena Kumari. Also screening are: Dee Rees’ semi-autobiographical film debut Pariah, a landmark film which beautifully portrays a Black queer experience; and Ingmar Bergman’s masterful Scandinavian road-movie Wild Strawberries, full of unforgettable moments.

Films start at 8.30pm so head over from 6.30pm to soak up the vibes. Taste an array of delicious food and enjoy  a drink as the sun goes down, then prepare to settle down for a screening under the stars. Seats open half an hour before the film starts.
