Takht Jamsheed

The Gulf Hotel Bahrain Convention & Spa holds a legacy unlike any other. It is the original five-star hotel of Bahrain, boasting a 48 year reign over the Kingdoms hotels sector;

When Gulf Hotel opened in late 1969, the Arabian Gulf was just a few steps away and since then, the hotel has not lagged behind in keeping up with the modernisation that we see in Bahrain today.

The Hotel has undergone extensive change and refurbishment to stay fresh and current and at the same time held on to its’ proud roots and legacy. Not only does it stand as Bahrain’s first 5 star hotel, it also is Bahrain’s largest hotel, with 361 rooms, 10 fine dining restaurants, 4 lounges and cafes and 2 sparkling bars.

And it is one of these fine dining restaurants, which led to Habibti Magazine graciously accepting an invitation to experience a Persian culinary extravaganza at Takht Jamsheed, which was voted as Best MENA restaurant in 2014 by Time Out Bahrain

Takht Jamsheed, is an Iranian restaurant at the Gulf Hotel Bahrain, and takes inspiration from Persia’s royal palace of Takht Jamsheed. Having opened in 2004, it is a much younger member of the Gulf Hotel Family, but an important one nonetheless.

Takht Jamsheed is befitting of its royal inspiration, with a grand interior, showcasing floor to ceiling, wall embossed sculptures, shields, sword and imperial vases.

The opulence of the décor whets our appetite, as it sets the ambience of a royal banquet and we are sure we will feast like kings tonight. And as the evening progresses, we are not disappointed.

The service at Takht Jamsheed would have you believing you true are royalty, each member of the Takht Jamsheed are extremely attentive and we got talking to Restaurant Manager, Mr Ebrahim Shah Nawaz, who has been part of the Takht Jamsheed team since the very beginning.

We started with a Mixed Starter, which included Mirza Ghanimi, (eggplant, tomatoes and eggs), Mast Khiyar (yoghurt and cucumber), Salad Shirazi (chopped cucumber, tomatoes and onions), and warm soft freshly baked khoubz.

This was followed by Kabab Dariush, which is the Mixed Grill Platter, a selection of succulent bite size lamb fillet, minced lamb, chicken an hamour fillet.

We ended the evening with falooda and saffron ice cream, which was a perfect sweet and light note to end the perfect evening meal to.

Portion sizes are very good, enough to share between two which allows the option for ordering a few dishes to share for variety.
The menu is very reasonably priced, considering it’s stature of being a fine dining restaurant in a 5 star hotel, so you won’t feel out of pocket.

After our meal, we had the immense pleasure of meeting Chef Hussain. Instantly we saw the connection of the quality of food served on our table directly linked to his passion and dedication to his art.

To serve great food is not an easy task, but to serve great food, again and again, without losing any of its original star quality, this is what Chef Hussain has mastered.

Editors tips –

  • This is a meal not to be rushed, savour the ambience, the food and the hospitality and make an evening out of it.
  • The restaurant does serve alcohol, for those who wish to have a glass or two to accompany their meal. Ask for the drinks menu.
