The luxury of water

We recently came across an amazing initiative by Bilal Bin Saqib, founder of Tayaba.Org and his innovative H2O Wheels.

Inspired by HippoRoller, H2O Wheels was developed to help water-deprived communities to collect water more efficiently and easily.

We learned that approximately a quarter to a third of Pakistan’s population lacks access to safe drinking water. Women and children bear the burden of collecting water, walking 5 to 10km, which can take up to four hours each day.

A heavy pot is carried on their head, over long distances and through rough terrains. This negatively affects, not only health and wellbeing, but also economic productivity within communities due to excess time spent to collect water.

Tayaba.org helps the water deprived population of Pakistan by providing them H2O (Help 2 Others) wheels which helps them carry more water (40 litres) as apposed to what they would carry in the clay pots, in less time with less physical effort, by being able to just roll the wheel over the rough terrain.

To date Tayaba.Org has distributed around 3,000 wheels and it has positively impacted around 40,000 people.

The wheels have helped women and children in such water deprived areas to save time and spend it on productive activities, as well as easing the burden on their backs and heads, overall improving their health.
